Is Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Phone Worth Your Money?
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is a major player when it comes to ultra-affordable and mid range smartphones (Redmi branded smartphones). Now with the Mi 10 series, it has its eyes on the high end market. Let’s see if it has been able to nail it or not.
Xiaomi’s Mi 10 phone is giving its competitors a run for their money, especially OnePlus 8 series and Huawei P40. But like all smartphones where the flagship phone has strengths, it isn’t without its quirks. According to the latest phone prices in Pakistan, it is selling for a whopping Rs. 149,999. Whether or not it is worth it depends on what you want to spend your money on when you buy a phone. The price of OnePlus 8 stands at Rs. 119,000, which doesn’t land it in the cheap android phones category either. But it is relatively cheaper in comparison to Mi 10 and this difference can make or break a sale.
As buying a new phone is often confusing, when doing online shopping it is recommended to compare smartphone prices of different brands that offer more or less the same features in a similar price range. Mi 10 and OnePlus series are pretty close to one another in terms of specs and looks. Hence, customers are often confused between the two. But an easy way out is to always do a detailed comparison of new mobile phones with price.
Here is Mi 10 pitted against its biggest competitor, the OnePlus 8 series. You decide which flagship phone suits your needs.
Mi 10 Giving the OnePlus 8 Series a Tough Competition
If you observe the latest online shopping Pakistan trends, it is obvious that these three phones are making great sales. The OnePlus 8 and One Plus 8 Pro are selling hot because of their performance. Not that Mi 10 lags behind much, but the advantage with Mi 10 is that it comes with all the bells and whistles. While some may want to pay for a phone with quality of life additions like strong battery and fast wireless charging, others may overlook this and want to opt for the one with a more solid performance.
But if you are looking for an affordable flagship smartphone, then one of these three must be on your wishlist. Since Mi 10 Pro comes with a heavy price tag, Mi 10 makes for a pretty compelling package among reasonably priced flagship phones.
The three phones have gorgeous designs. All of them come with crisp, clean lines and have been designed with a minimalist approach. Mi 10’s and OnePlus 8’s glossy finish is classy, but it is a smudge magnet so it is difficult to keep the surface clean. OnePlus 8 is a spectacular set that comes with a centrally mounted camera array. It is undeniably sleek. Both the smartphones, Mi 10 and OnePlus 8 come with flat back panels, but the OnePlus 8 Pro with its curved back stands apart from the other two. And the other good thing is that it comes with a matte glass. Those of you who do not want to be extra careful while handling their phones can opt for the matte surface of the OnePlus Pro 8.
Xiaomi has worked pretty hard on Mi 10’s looks and it is a beauty no doubt. The build quality is quite impressive and the finish is top class. The front of the phone resembles OnePlus with the screen curving seamlessly into the back. This beautifully curved screen makes it a snug fit. If you are the one who wants an impressive looking phone, then its stunning design is going to score it some major points. But when you buy mobile phones, it all boils down to personal choice.
The OnePlus 8 Pro flaunts a 6.78-inch screen which means you will have to use both hands. The Xiaomi Mi 10 packs a 6.67-inch panel. OnePlus 8 with its 6.55-inch display seems smaller in comparison to the other two, but takes the trophy in ergonomics as it weighs only 180g. Even the OnePlus 8 Pro does not fare bad, weighing at 199g. The Mi 10 compared to these two is super heavy with a weight of 208g. 8.96mm of thickness makes it quite chubby for an easy hand grip and use. If you want a compact phone, then you must go for OnePlus 8.
Mi 10 is the clear winner in this category. It offers stereo speakers so the sound quality is top notch. Although the OnePlus 8 series phones also fare well, their sound is not as good as Mi 10.
OnePlus 8 series takes the cake here. It comes with a new improved haptic motor, superior to that of Mi 10.
Mi 10 vs OnePlus 8
Mi 10 has given a little bigger screen this time with a 6.67-inch FHD+ display. The smooth and fast 90Hz display is bold and the metal sides enhance its beauty. OnePlus 8 display is just a tad small measuring 6.55-inch with an FHD+ resolution. The difference in the screen size is slight and the display design is almost the same with a hole on the upper left corner. OnePlus’s display is from Samsung, while Mi10 gets it made by TCL.
Both phones are powered by a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 processor and pack 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.0. Performance is more or less the same and the little difference is due to the software or thermal characteristics.
This is the area where Mi 10 excels. The camera comes armed with a massive 1/1.33″ 108MP primary sensor and is the star of the show. The OnePlus 8 lacks here, but the OnePlus 8 Pro camera is a lot better. With the OnePlus 8 although you can take some superb pictures with the 48MP main sensor, however the ultra-wide leaves a lot to be desired. Mi 10 sports a 13 MP shooter, while OnePlus 8 offers a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. Both phones miss out the telephoto lens. With the Mi 10’s sensor you do not need a short range zoom lens anyway.
If you want a phone with the best camera experience, Mi 10 should be your choice out of the two.
The Mi 10 offers a 4780 mAh battery which is way superior to the 4300 unit on the OnePlus 8 that can last beyond a day. Along with that, the high end device offers wireless charging and reverse wireless charging which the OnePlus 8 does not.
So, is it Mi 10 or OnePlus 8?
The Mi 10 has the hardware working in its favor and hence the difference in the pricing. Where Mi 10 wins in premium hardware, a great camera, quality sound and terrific charging, its software holds it back from excellence. OnePlus will be the winner for those that want a clean, flexible and responsive software. Xiaomi’s software has recently faced criticism for constant notifications, and on a phone being pitched as a flagship the experience needs to be a smooth one.
OnePlus’s Oxygen OS is globally considered to be superior to Xiaomi’s MIUI skin. If you compare the updates, then OnePlus 8 will get more regular OS updates than Mi 10 will.
There has been a lot of debate about the price of Mi 10 Phone, with some arguing that it is among the most expensive phones by the brand. On the other hand, the argument that the hardware makes it worth the money also carries weight. After all, you are getting one of the best phones by Xiaomi with high specs, so spending a little will not hurt. Whichever choice you make, both the phones offer value for money.
